The challenge

An urgent call one February morning prompted an emergency AOG (Aircraft on Ground) movement from Marmande, France, to Tunis Carthage airport in Tunisia, dealt with by Priority Freight’s international night team in Coventry. The client required assistance in delivering a crucial component to the aircraft in Tunisia, which needed to be transported straight away. Weighing a manageable 14kgs, the cargo may have seemed unassuming, but without it the plane was grounded and a delay of even a few hours would have meant disaster for the client.

The solution

Priority Freight’s highly trained emergency response team immediately set about working to keep the aircraft’s downtime to a minimum. Within 20 minutes, the team had dispatched a vehicle to the collection point in Marmande and had started researching flight solutions that would achieve the quickest and most cost-effective transit.

The best option in this instance was an on-board courier on a passenger aircraft, who took delivery of the component within 90 minutes of Priority Freight receiving the original AOG alert. Meanwhile, the team organised clearance at Tunis, allowing the package to be rushed through customs and arrive at its destination a full 50 minutes ahead of schedule.

The benefits

In time-sensitive cases such as this, Priority Freight is ideally placed to source the necessary transport and paperwork to secure efficient, safe delivery of cargo of any size. In this instance the delivery was made within 12 hours of the initial alert, meaning that the client avoided significant financial losses, as well keeping their reputation intact.
