Ensuring supply chain certainty in 2024

Published: Monday, 22 January 2024

2023 was another turbulent year for the logistics industry as it contended with ongoing geopolitical and economic issues. The Ukraine conflict continues to impact the supply of many automotive parts, while simultaneously reducing cargo aircraft capacity and lengthening journeys to circumnavigate the region. There is no sign of imminent improvement, and it is likely to continue well into 2024.

Closer to home, the cost-of-living crisis has negatively affected consumer confidence, with interest in large-ticket items like cars seeing the greatest impact. Logistics firms need to ensure operational and administrative efficiency to mitigate the inevitable pressures on credit terms over the coming year, as customers look to protect their cash.

The introduction of the Border Target Operating Model will force further change, in parallel with the emergence of technologies that enhance logistics from an operational perspective, including AI-based tracking and delivery projections.

We can foresee sustainability being a focus for the year ahead with many companies increasing efforts to decrease carbon footprints and further enhance measures ahead of 2025 and 2030 targets.

Over the coming months we will be ramping-up our own plans to offset carbon across our business, and we welcome the legislative changes that will make this, and other sustainability practices, more commonplace across the sector.

Not even halfway through the first month of the year, the logistics sector is facing another major challenge. Recent attacks on shipping in the Red Sea are having a significant impact on the global flow of goods from across the supply chain. This ongoing crisis further highlights the need for companies to have contingencies in place to ensure goods reach their destination in a timely manner.

At Priority Freight, we offer supply chain certainty to our customers. With strategically located control centres across Europe, our team is available 24/7, 365 to provide bespoke solutions to any logistics challenge, no matter what the geography, size, weight, distance or mode of transport.
